I need everyone to listen up on this because it's VERY important. Proposition 8, a proposition which will enshrine the denial of civil rights for thousands of individuals into the California constitution, is gaining traction. No on Proposition 8 needs our help!
The distorted ads of the Yes on 8 camp are gaining ground with voters in California with lies and scare tactics. One ad goes so far to say that if proposition 8 does not pass, churches will be penalized and gay marriage will part of a mandatory curriculum to children in elementary schools. This is just plain false and appeals to fear and ignorance, but sadly the ads appear to be working.
Here's what you, my readers, can do to help, even if you're not a resident of California you can help! Go to the No, on Prop 8 web page and donate anything you can to help ensure that all Californians are guaranteed equal rights! This issue is not about sexuality, it's not even about marriage, its about civil rights for everyone!
Have any of you read what has come out of the AIG Congressional hearings? Well if you haven't, the basic jist of it is that a week after AIG received $85 BILLION from you, me, and the rest of the citizenry of this country, the executives decided to treat themselves to a vacation. A vacation that cost $400,000+.
Have you heard of anything more outrageous - a week after
taxpayers commit $85 billion dollars to rescue AIG, the company's
leading insurance executives spend hundreds of thousands of dollars at
one of the most exclusive reports in the nation...Let me describe for
some of you the charges that the shareholders, taxpayers, had to pay.
AIG spent $200,000 dollars for hotel rooms. Almost $150,000 for catered
banquets. AIG spent $23,000 at the hotel spa and another $1,400 at the
salon. They were getting manicures, facials, pedicures and massages
while American people were footing the bill. And they spent another
$10,000 dollars for I don't know what this is, leisure dining. Bars?
As far as I'm concerned, these people have embezzeled money and should be punished. They should be stripped of all their wealth and that wealth should be redistributed to the people. The deserve to lose everything they have and live the remainder of their lives penniless, jobless, and reviled.
You know, the French had this problem once, and a particular innovation during the enlightenment in humane termination of life helped them solve this kind of bullshit.
The Castro street fair was this past weekend. It was a nice, relaxing time actually, a low key close to the festivities of summer.
I finally met up with Dan after not seeing him in what seemed like forever. We had a nice time strolling though the fair and catching up with all the things going on in our lives. We also had the pleasure of seeing Big Red Dave as well, who we hadn't seen in some time either.
There wasn't anything scandalous to report at this event. There were some bearded women dancing in period costumes to no music, I think that was my favorite. I would have photographed them but a photo wouldn't have captured the bizarreness of it. I've definitely become accustomed to all the bizarreness, but then again I was quick to embrace it. I really enjoyed the Alice In Wonderland section of the fair. Dan couldn't handle it, apparently he was molested by a giant caterpillar when he lived in San Francisco during the .com days.
I'm continually amazed at how quickly events get cleaned up in the city. I remember when Pink Saturday ended how shocked I was that within an hour Castro street was cleaned and back to normal operations. Same thing with the fair this weekend. At the stroke of 6pm the music stopped and an hour later the street cleaners were finishing up, giant mechanical snails leaving their residue. Poetic, eh?
Sometimes the notes tend to be more aggressive than passive aggressive. In any case I totally empathize with the note writer as I love cheese and anyone who illegally partakes in my cheese would feel my wrath as well.
I love how he re-used the spent box as his note medium, it really drives the point home while being green at the same time. Nice touch.
