Last night the Senate voted on a bill that gives immunity to telecom corporations if they "aid" the government's domestic spying program, delivering President Bush a victory on one of his signature national-security issues.
Senator Clinton did not vote as she was not present, she was in Texas campaigning.
Senator Obama, however, was present. He voted "yea" on a few attempts by Senators Feingold, Feinstein, and Specter to amend the measure to make it less fascist. They tried and failed. He voted "nay" on the motion of cloture for the bill. However, when the time came for the final vote on the bill he abstained.
Wait, what? Abstained? What about the change? On the issue of giving immunity to phone comapnies who spy on their customers for the government Senator Obama didn't vote?! Why not vote "Nay" and be a voice of change Senator Obama? What happened to the change wagon?
It's interesting to note also that one of Obama's most vocal proponents, his colleague in the Senate, Claire McCaskill from Missouri voted "yea" on the final bill, thus voting "yea" for expansion of spying.
Oh yeah. I can feel that change a comin'!
